Lilly passes away

Date: Fri 15 April 2011

Lilly's Bio

Lately we noticed that Lilly was having problems laying down at night due to arthritic joints.

Earlier this month we noticed that she was having problems standing up As she tried to rise, she fell over and could not manage to get up again. She was spotted by our staff and help was called. She had injured her front leg. Though it did not look broken but she did not want to put any weight on it. Lily spent the rest of the day trying to stand. We were happy to see her success in being able to gettiup and lay down without help and she managed to get  to a spot near the new elephant shelter.

Next day Lily could not get comfortable standing or lying down and sank to the ground again. She struggled to get up but here energy levels were too low.  We gave her IV fluids to help build up her strength.

We were eventually able to get her up again using our new truck which is equipped with a crane. She could stand but with difficulty. After a number of traumas she gave up and passed away that day.

Lilly was a kind hearted female elephant that had been with us for over a decade. She had touched the hearts of many of our visitors and was the second elephant rescued by the park.
