In the memory of Mae Tee
It is 5 years and 8 months since we rescued our grand mother elephant, Mae Tee, from the trekking camp. She spent a happy time with the herd and family at ENP. For the last couple of days, we observed Mae Tee walking and searching all around her area like she was looking for something or may be she walk to say goodbye to the park . Her legs get weak and shake often, and she not eat much. We know that her time will come soon. On Tuesday Mae Tee walk to scrub herself at the tree next to her shelter, and then she did a short walk around her territory. She seemed so tired.
We recently put her into her new free chain shelter and her private room. Early morning yesterday we found her laying down and we tried to help her to lift her head, but she is very tired. Our vet gave her the IV drop and the vet team from Chiang Mai university came to help and check. We made the comfortable place for her to lay down and at 6:20 pm she peaceful pass away with no suffer. Today Mae Tee is on her journey to her new world to meet with her soulmate Mae Kham Geaw, who passed away a couple of years before her. Tomorrow, after a Buddhist funeral ceremony, we will put her body next to her Best friend Kham Geaw. Rest in peace our beloved ! You will be in our hearts and deep memories forever ! Thanks to Di Coulthard-Franklin and Steve who helped to rescue her, taking her out from the elephant riding and giving to the end of her days dignity and freedom.
