News from Elephant Nature Park

Upon arrival, her first swim in the river was a sign of good days to come. Afterward, we took her to the clinic, as she was suffering from a fungal skin infection. Our vet team treated her daily until the problem was resolved.

AuengKham quickly formed a beautiful friendship with HomNuan, which continues to blossom daily. They are very vocal with each other, which makes us smile. They talk to each other constantly, as if they had been apart for a long time, welcoming the happy reunion.

No one can imagine the hardship that they have had to endure – to be taken from their mothers at a tender age and made to work and perform meaningless activities. AuengKham and HomNuan are in generous spirits now, gauging by how warmly they befriended RattanaKham on the night of her arrival.

Thanks go out to Warattada “Meow” Pattarodom and her friends, who helped to take the saddle off AuengKham’s back before we all walked home together.

KraTae’s journey from Logging and Elephant Riding to Sanctuary last year

After researching KraTae's life story , we found that KraTae had been bought and sold many times in her past. And had worked in many places in Thailand. During Covid, KraTae was sick quite often with colic, and falling down many times. The owner had contacted us often, concerned that she would not live long.

Sri Prae’s first job was working in illegal logging in Tak Province, where she had the great misfortune of stepping on a landmine. She spent two difficult years in rehabilitation at the elephant hospital in Lampang, after which she was considered unable to work, and so forced into a breeding program.

We can learn so much from elephants

Today, as RattanaKham, AuengKham, and HomNuan finished their bath in the river, they started to walk back. However, RattanaKham and AuengKham quickly realized their friend wasn't with them. They stopped in their tracks, emitting low rumbles and trumpets to HomNuan, who promptly responded to their calls and rushed to her friends' calls.
