Malee is fortunate to have 3 old Nannie’s close to her, even if they don’t always get along. Malee is calm and patient, and enjoys the company of any singular nanny or all at once. Malee passes her time in simple pleasures – whether mud, water, scratch posts, or food, she finds happiness in the present moment.

Malee may be pregnant, and some blood tests seem to confirm that, but, while hopeful, we are not expecting. Let that gift arrive should it ever be.

Little Chaba and baby Pyi Mai seized the opportunity to visit Malee’s herd

Lately, Chaba has been fond of visiting Malee's herd, even if only briefly. On this occasion, Chaba brought her sister Pyi Mai along, and put her at ease while being with the Malee herd, which included sharing some treats with them.

Peaceful Afternoon Atmosphere at Elephant Nature Park Sanctuary

Rain is always welcome on hot days and the weather becomes refreshing. But Malee knows that when the skies clear, the heat will return and she prepares her skin to remain cool and protected. It’s a contented life when no saddle is to be thrown on your back and then coerced to obey unpleasant duties.

Mae Malee is a large beautiful lady now retired to Elephant Nature Park Sanctuary

Malee arrived at Elephant Nature Park in early June 2015 after her rescue by Save Elephant Foundation. She was rescued along with another 18 elephants who had worked in logging and trekking camps in Kanchanaburi. Mae Malee is the adopted gran-nanny to Manao, a young girl who was rescued with her.

It’s Trunk Up Tuesday! Meet Malee

Meet Mae Malee, one of the 19 elephants rescued from Kanchanaburi in June last year. Malee is the oldest elephant in the group at 70+ years old and a very loyal grand nanny to young Manao who she follows around to make sure that she is safe.

The rescue of 19 Elephants by Save Elephant Foundation

Nineteen Elephants rescued by Save Elephant Foundation

Over three years ago, the Thai government confiscated 21 elephants from a camp in Kanchanaburi. It was believed that the elephants did not have proper documentation. These elephants were used for trekking, elephant shows and were also rented to other facilities.

Finally, after a very long court battle and lots of legal expenses, the owners were able to prove that the elephants were indeed legally owned and captive bred. They won the right to keep their elephants.
