Elephant of the week, Mae SriNuan the gentle and feminine elephant
Mae Srinuan, her name means gentle and feminine. She used to be forced to work without enough time to eat and she was chained up after work. One evening, she tried to escape to find food. One man shot her with a slingshot that damaged her left eye which is now blind. She was only able to spend 8 months with her baby, until the owner sold the baby to an Elephant Show in Phuket. In November 2005, the Elephant Nature Park team met her at Surin Annual Elephant Festival. Thanks to Antoinette van de Water for managing the rescue as part of her Bring the Elephant Home Project. SriNuan arrived at Elephant Nature Park in January 2006 and joined her new family immediately. At the park, she is the aunty of Chang Yim and FaaMai. Even though she is blind in one eye, she still does her best to protect the babies and her family.
