Elephant Of The Week : DokNgern
DokNgern was rescued in December 2006 from an elephant show and street begging.
Like all captive working elephants, DokNgern had a traumatic upbringing. She was forced to learn demeaning circus tricks and when she could not take it, she reacted towards her captor and attacked and injured them.
The owner decided to sell DokNgern as she was growing bigger and became too difficult to handle.
DokNgern is now free and a cherished member of our largest family group at Elephant Nature Park, roaming free and never tethered, prodded or goaded to perform.
She has given birth to 3 calves at Elephant Nature Park. Her first son named Chang Yim, second daughter named Dok Mai and the last is a boy named Dok Rak who was born in April 2016.
DokNgern has been a very caring mother to her calves and she enjoys the help and care of nannies in her group.
