News from Elephant Nature Park

TongJan means “Golden Moon”, born in February 2005. Thankfully, TongJan was rescued in July 2005 along with her mother Mae BuaTong before she was old enough to get into the spirit broken, known as “Phajaan”. TongJan is one of our elephants grown up by love and care from the herd at ENP. She is a big sister of FaaMai and junior nanny of DokMai. Now her family has a new member; baby DokRak so that make TongJan more busy with the nanny duty. It is really enjoyable to watch all nannies in the herd doing their great job. TongJan also happy with the young members. Now she’s more grown up. Every year she’s becoming more perfect.

Elephant of the Week 20 November 2023: ThongJan

A fun way to cool off, ThongJan plays at the river's edge and opts for a mud spa to beat the heat. She loosens the mud with her feet and then flings it over her body before scratching her trunk against the bank, all the while looking super chilled.

A Recipe for satisfaction – Mud Therapy expertly demonstrated by DokNgern

The herd of Buathong, DokMai, ThongJan, and Dokngern enjoyed a mud bath after the rain today, relishing the effects of mud on their skin. Mud therapy is a source of great pleasure for elephants and the mud at Elephant Nature Park is apparently pretty good.

Could a baby elephant bring her rejected mother into the herd?

Earlier this year, baby elephant LekLek and mother MohLoh were rescued from the Omkoi District of Chiang Mai by Save Elephant Foundation. On arrival at Elephant Nature Park, they were introduced to FaaMai's family but three months have passed and acceptance is not complete.

Afternoon rain showers bring a lot of joy to young elephants Faa Mai, Tong Jaan and mother Bua Thong.

Lolling around in the wet mud, it is a delight to see elephants having so much fun.

Wishing TongJan a very happy 11th Birthday. Arriving at Elephant Nature Park with mum Bua Tong in July 2005 from a nearby trekking camp, a 6 month Tong Jan escaped the brutal training process that would have broken her spirit and separated her from her mother. She is now surrounded by a family who love and protect her as well as her mum, little sister Faa Mai and adopted sister Dok Ngern.

ThongJan is trying to invite JaiDee to join the herd at Elephant Nature Park.

JaiDee is mean "Good Heart ", she has been rescued and arrived ENP on 25th January 2015. After 4 months staying at the park, she still keep walking around the park to learn and choosing the herd for herself. She still hesitate and can not make a decision which group to join in. While she is walking to visit each group, TongJan come to greet her and try to convince JaiDee to join her group.
