Rescued elephants call each other with roars and low rumblings on their journey

Arun and Rudee are fortunate to have one another. They are soulmates. Even during the rescue journey to Elephant Nature Park, separated by necessity for transport, they would call to each other with roars and low rumblings, especially when we stopped at the gas stations where they could see each other clearly and touch trunks, checking that each was well, in spite of separation.

This moment of elephant caring was such a beautiful scene to see.

Elephant Friends Enjoy the swollen river at Elephant Nature Park

A tender moment between two close friends - Ponsawan and Mintra in the fast flowing river Ponsawan loves fast water. She loves the deep water, and anticipates the water level rise after every rain storm at Elephant Nature Park. Mintra is more timid, and checks with her friend if it’s ok to go swimming.

Flashback Friday 1 September 2023: WanMai’s life Before & After Rescue

Now, WanMai, MaeMai, and Sri Nuan are inseparable, with mother and nanny sharing the responsibilities of caring for the sweet but mischievous WanMai. We are so happy to have been able to rescue WanMai at such a young age (thanks to the generosity of Noelle), knowing that she will be able to thrive in her new home and never be sold away from her family into the working camps.

At Elephant Nature Park, visitors can often see younger elephants being surrounded, guided, caressed and protected by other elephants. This caring behaviour of elephants being attentive to the care and well being of other elephants, especially younger elephants we call Nanny Behaviour.
