Rest in Peace Beautiful Granny BaanYen
Every time we went on a trip for work purposes from the Elephant Nature Park project, when we returned, this family of elephants would run up to us excited and how they would chatter to let us know about their joy and happiness.
Every elephant has a unique sound, especially BaanYen, who has a very cute giggling sound followed by a low rumble. Grandma BaanYen would always let us know how excited and happy she was.
BaanYen was rescued at the age of 64 from an elephant camp in Chiang Mai in 2014 and arrived emaciated with many abscesses on her body. Her mental state was poor but after appropriate care and diet, she soon gained weight and her health improved.
Her passionate bond to ThongAe and Jenny has bee remarkable. Her bond with youngsters who remained by her side, seemed to give new life to BaanYen and the will to survive and overcome the horrors of her long stressful life.
Tomorrow we will no longer hear grandma BaanYen’s voice. She has left us this afternoon. She stopped eating more than two weeks ago and our veterinary team continued to provide care and support for BaanYen’s condition.
From the day that grandma BaanYen became sick, both ThongAe and Jenny were always there to support her, to cheer her on, and encourage their adopted grandmother to eat and walk .
Today, grandma arrived at the final point of her life. She traveled across worlds to a peaceful place. Even though she is gone, she remains in our hearts forever ❤️
We will all miss our brave grandmother, BaanYen !
