Extraordinary scenes as Lek calls to her beloved ‘children’ to come into the shade for a midday snack at Elephant Nature Park.
These two elderly elephant friends, Arun and Rudee, delight in sharing fresh, sweet watermelons. These rescued souls have forged an unbreakable bond, demonstrating how love and care can heal even the deepest wounds.
A tender moment between two close friends – Ponsawan and Mintra in the fast flowing river Ponsawan loves fast water. She loves the deep water, and anticipates the water level rise after every rain storm at Elephant Nature Park. Mintra is more timid, and checks with her friend if it’s ok to go swimming.
Now, WanMai, MaeMai, and Sri Nuan are inseparable, with mother and nanny sharing the responsibilities of caring for the sweet but mischievous WanMai. We are so happy to have been able to rescue WanMai at such a young age (thanks to the generosity of Noelle), knowing that she will be able to thrive in her new home and never be sold away from her family into the working camps.
At Elephant Nature Park, visitors can often see younger elephants being surrounded, guided, caressed and protected by other elephants. This caring behaviour of elephants being attentive to the care and well being of other elephants, especially younger elephants we call Nanny Behaviour.
Bob Barker’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to animal welfare has left an indelible mark on all of us. His unwavering support for Elephant Nature Park and his contributions to rescue and care for animals, from elephants to dogs, have made a profound difference.
Khamla is the beating heart of the largest family group at Elephant Nature Park. There are 9 elephants who foster her care and well-being, with a mother Mae Baitoey and 2 Nannies, always doting on her. She is a most fortunate young lady to have been rescued at the age of 4 and brought under the care of Save Elephant Foundation. Much has changed since her arrival in 2015 and to see her thrive inside such a wonderfully committed family group has been nothing short of inspiring.
After a recent post about the difficulties of 2 newly rescued elephants settling into Elephant Nature Park, our founder Lek Chailert today made this observation: LekLek and her mother, MoLoh, have been in the Park for some time now. It seemed likely that they would be absorbed beautifully into FaaMai’s family group.
Today we celebrated the 2 year anniversary of Mother Bunma and baby Chaba to be with us in the Park ! What a joy it has been ❤️ to be graced with their presence. Noelle, your love for the Giants and your care for them has touched many lives.
We compiled some highlight footage showcasing the remarkable two year transformation of baby Pyi Mai, from the time of rescue and her time since at Elephant Nature Park. This footage vividly depicts the stark contrast in Pyi Mai’s health and condition before and after the rescue.

An elephant will drink 150 – 200 liters of water/day. Access is important. You can see how much MoLoh and LekLek satisfy their thirst at the river, sucking up to 5 liters of water before consuming, and drawn at an astounding rate ! (Researchers calculated that elephants suck up water with what would be an equivalent air velocity of 150 metres per second.)
Arun and Rudee are fortunate to have one another. They are soulmates. Even during the rescue journey to Elephant Nature Park, separated by necessity for transport, they would call to each other with roars and low rumblings, especially when we stopped at the gas stations where they could see each other clearly and touch trunks, checking that each was well, in spite of separation.
