Watch the journey of three elephants Duj Doa, Mai Tai, and Fah Rung during their rescue by Save Elephant Foundation to their forever home. Most Elephants have remained on a chain for so long now. That is one dire of COVID. Tourist industry-supported, they have been jobless for more than 1 year. All captive working elephants need a change from an intolerable situation and some need immediate rescue, three fortunate old dames have caught our attention.
This is the transformation of elephants from elephant riding in trekking camp to live with freedom and enjoy their retirement…
Update from Lek on FahMui and Kanjana, the latest Save Elephant Foundation rescued elephants, now living in the sanctuary of Elephant Nature Park. As we believe that elephants belong to the herd, when we have new arrival we slowly introduce them to potential friends. FahMui and Kanjana have their sleeping shelters across the river, they already get along well.
Today 19 July 2018, Kanjana, the newly rescued elephant from Pai, finally experiences freedom in the sanctuary of Elephant Nature Park, the place she can call home for ever. These words are taken from a facebook post made by Save Elephant Foundation and Elephant Nature Park founder Lek Chailert the day after the rescue as she reflects on the final rescue of Kanjana: Another life has been set free from work today. Her story has been known to us for some time now. More than 10 years ago, i met her and learned her story. We have tried to help her since that day, but the owner would not release her and she continued to carry tourists for many years since, even though I followed her with interest every year.
Kanjana has both hind legs injured when she was young. Born captive, her mother worked in a logging camp. After work, the mahout would let the mother and child out to walk in the jungle. The mother would drag a chain while her baby walked free. During a walk, the young Kanjana fell into a hole after a fire had just burned the forest. Hot coals were still in the hole. She tried to escape, and witnesses say that her mother tried to help. Not until people noticed was she able to get out
We are pleased to inform that our new saddle off programs recently open. After seeing other Elephant owners change their…
Just 2 years ago, Save Elephant Foundation rescued Kabu from an awful life of logging, despite being severely injured and now walking with obvious difficulty. Now able to enjoy elephant life in the sanctuary of Elephant Nature Park, Kabu can relax, sleep, play and share life with other elephants at the park. But there are often times that Kabu doesn’t want to share everything. Kabu likes to takes a nap on her own mud pile. When she hears the big herd coming her way, she wakes up to protect her pile. She doesn’t want others to play in her own space.
Most elephants that Save Elephant Foundation rescue come from work environments and have served humans for many decades. Most of them have been separated from their families or their young, and while they continue under the yoke of their labor, they have no chance to join a herd, or to even have a friend. Elephant rescue revolves around the restoration of what has been stolen from them, to give them back an opportunity to have family again. Pikun was an older elephant that we rescued from a tourist camp close to us. She has been mostly solitary since her short walk to the Park.
